For this Strasse addition remodel in Summit Park, Utah, we partnered with Brach Design Architecture & some truly awesome, trusting clients to transform a modest home into a modern, energy-efficient residence. The design draws from industrial, Scandinavian, Bauhaus, & minimalist architecture, blending clean lines with bold materials.
The exterior features weathering steel cladding (Corten) paired with massive floor-ceiling Aluplast uPVC European windows, flooding the interiors with light while emphasizing durability & performance. Inside, custom details create a unique character that reflects both function & artistry.
From a building science perspective, this project demonstrates how thoughtful design can enhance performance. Using Pretty Good House construction practices — an approach similar to Passive House but more cost-effective — we added 50% more square footage while reducing the furnace size by 50%. Upgrades included an energy recovery ventilator (ERV), heat pump water heater, & high-performance envelope details that future-proof the home.
We also completed a deep energy retrofit of the existing crawl space. By over-excavating, de-watering, & placing gravel under new footings, we resolved persistent groundwater issues from snow melt. With improved drainage, insulation, & air sealing, the crawl space no longer requires a sump pump — increasing both comfort & efficiency.
The result is a custom luxury addition remodel in Summit Park that seamlessly extends the home while elevating its architecture, performance, & livability. It’s a project that proves design & performance can go hand in hand
